The Destruction of Zephaestalese
A small, rather far removed village, set in a valley in the mountains. Summercrest is rarely heard of, and when it is, it’s because of the numerous oddities which occur within it. Its inhabitants are incredibly varied, composing mostly of people who got lost and wandered into the valley. The first of these was the great bard, Lienne Aneirin, and her entourage. Weary from travel and on the run from the law, they decided that the valley seemed like a pretty good place to live, and created the beginnings of a settlement.
They were also responsible for the rather unconventional system of government which Summercrest runs upon. Instead of a mayor or a town council, the village is governed by the Bard King. Trials are held once every decade, with all of Summercrest’s bards participating. Whoever performs best in the trials is crowned the new Bard King (regardless of gender). The Bard King has complete control over the laws and the day to day management of the town. The crowning of certain eccentric individuals has resulted in some very strange periods in Summercrest’s history – such as a king who decreed that white and yellow were now mourning colours, one who said that tomatoes could only be eaten on Tuesdays, or the current Bard King, who decided that everyone has to shout all of his/her sentences, as he has hearing loss and doesn’t want to feel left out.
